Forest Resources of Rajasthan Latest 2024-25

Forestry landscape of the state -

Total recorded forest area in the state is 32,921.01 sq km. (9.60% relative to the total geographical area of ​​the state)

As per the provisions of the Rajasthan Forest Act 1953, reserved forests are 36.99%, protected forests are 56.51% and unclassified forests are 6.50%.

According to the Indian Forest Survey Report 2021 -
Forest cover of the state is 16,654.96 sq km and
Tree cover is 8733 sq km.
Total forest and tree cover of the state - 25387.96 sq km (7.42 percent of the total geographical area of ​​the state)

Two new projects of the state related to forests -
1. Rajasthan Afforestation and Biodiversity Conservation Project (RABCP) - is being run in 19 districts with the cooperation of JICA.
2. Rajasthan forestry and biodiversity development project (RFBDP) - is implemented in 13 districts with the cooperation of AFD France.

In order to make Rajasthan a green state, Tree Outside Forest in Rajasthan (TOFR) scheme has been implemented to increase vegetation cover and increase greenery outside forest areas under Rajasthan Greening and Rewilding Mission (RGRM).

Four major institutes for training in forest sector -
1. Rajasthan Forestry and Wildlife Training Institute, Jaipur
2. Rajasthan Forest Training Centre, Alwar
3. Desert Forest Training Centre, Jodhpur
4. Wildlife Management and Desert Ecosystem Training Centre, Talchappar

Four biological parks in the state -
1. Machia Biological Park, Jodhpur
2. Sajjangarh Biological Park, Udaipur
3. Nahargarh Biological Park, Jaipur
4. Abheda Biological Park, Kota
Under construction - Marudhara Biological Park in Bikaner and Pushkar Biological Park in Ajmer are being developed.

Four zoos in Rajasthan are located in Jaipur, Udaipur, Kota and Bikaner
The Udaipur zoo has been developed as a bird house while the zoos located in Jaipur and Bikaner are being developed as a bird house.

Tiger Reserves of Rajasthan
Notification of Dholpur-Karoli Tiger Reserve has been issued in the year 2023-24, which is the fifth tiger reserve of the state.

Bird Conservation Program- 

Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitat Scheme
Under the scheme, 60% of the center and 40% of the state has been determined by the Government of India.
Under the scheme, works are being carried out for Great Indian Bustard Recovery Program, Kharmor Conservation and Vulture Conservation within 21 protected areas.
For the conservation of the critically endangered state bird Great Indian Bustard, artificial breeding of Great Indian Bustard bird has been started in the Sam area of ​​Jaisalmer under a tripartite agreement by the Government of India, Wildlife Institute of India and the State Government. Under this, 29 chicks are being reared.
11 chicks are being reared for the conservation of Kharmor (Lesser Florican) bird.
Conservation and breeding of Green Munia has started in Udaipur Bird Park.

Project Leopard for Conservation of Panther-
Jhalana Jaipur was selected as the first place for leopard safari.
Presently, Project Leopard is being run in Jhalana, Amagarh, Kumbhalgarh, Rawli Tatgarh, Jaisamand, Shergarh (Baran), Mount Abu, Khetri Basiyal, Jawai Dam and Bassi and Sitamata Sanctuary.

Rajasthan Ex Situ Conservation Authority (RESCA) has been formed under Rajasthan Society Registration Act 1958 to help in conservation and promotion of wildlife in zoos, biological parks, artificial breeding centers and rescue centers located in the state.
